Q. How do I view the list of available online courses?

A. Click on Online Courses in the menu bar. Then click on Child Care, Child Nutrition, Food Safety, Special Needs, Wellness, or Webinar to see a list of online courses for each category.

 

Q. What is the fee for online courses?

A. NFSMI currently provides online courses free of charge.

 

Q. How do I find out the number of instructional hours for each online course?

A. The number of instructional hours is identified in the course description for each online course.

 

Q. What is the schedule for online courses?

A. NFSMI online courses are self-paced. You may register to take an online course at anytime and complete the course at your convenience.

 

Q. Will I receive credit for taking the online course?

A. NFSMI online courses may be used to satisfy credentialing and certification requirements of a sponsor, stage agency, or other organization. NFSMI does not award CEUs, college credits, or any other type of continuing education credits.

 

Q. Does NFSMI provide CEU’s for the online course?

A. No. Our courses may be used to satisfy the requirements of certificate or credential granting organizations, such as SNA. Click the link to view SNA’s CEU policy.

 

Q .How do I create a profile to take an online course?

Q. How do I start the online course once I have registered?

A. Log in to the NFSMI website. You can find online courses that you have registered for in your “My Courses” section of the Toolbox on the left side of the main menu.  Instructions for beginning an online course are located on page 13 of  NFSMI's Online Course System User Guide.

 

Q. How do I return to an online course that I started days ago?

A. Log in to the NFSMI website. You can find online courses that you have registered for in your “My Courses” section of the Toolbox on the left side of the main menu.  Instructions for continuing an online course you have started are located on page 13 of NFSMI's Online Course System User Guide.


When you open the course, it will take you to the place you were when you stopped.

 

Q. Where is the workbook and handouts for the online course?

A. The workbook is located in the introduction section on the “Course Requirements” screen of each course. The link to download or print the workbook is made available again in the introductory pages of each lesson within the course.

The course workbook and other related documents can also be found in the COURSE DOCUMENTS available in the top right corner on each screen of the online course.

 

Q. How do I receive my Certificate of Completion?

A. Once you have successfully completed the online course by passing the post-quiz for each lesson and completing the course evaluation, you will be able to download a dated certificate of completion. Instructions for retrieving your Certificate of Completion is located on page 18 of NFSMI's Online Course System User Guide.

 

Q. How do I reprint a certificate or relocate the certificate?

A. Log into your NFSMI account and then follow the instructions located on page 18 of NFSMI's Online Course System User Guide to retrieve your Certificate of Completion.

The certificates can be found in the "My Certificates" section of your Toolbox when you have logged in to the NFSMI website and are on the NFSMI Main Menu screen.

 

Q. Do I have to take the Culinary Techniques online courses in order?

A. No. Once you have taken the prerequisite course, CT1-Culinary Techniques: Introduction to Preparing Healthy School Meals, you may take the remaining Culinary Techniques courses in any order.

 

Q. Do I have to take the On the Road to Professional Food Preparation online courses in any particular order?

A. Yes. They must be taken in this order: 1) Standardized Recipes; 2) Weights and Measures; and 3) Portion Control.

 

Q. Are the online courses available in Spanish?

A. No

 

Q. I can't go to the next screen. Who can I contact?

A. You may email nfsmi@olemiss.edu regarding any technical issues you may have. Include your user name and phone number in your email, and a member of the technical support team will contact you.

Business hours for the National Food Service Management Institute are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday.

 

Q. I can't view the video or hear the audio on a slide. What should I do?

A. You may not have the Flash plug-in installed. Click here to visit the Adobe Flash player page and download the free Flash plug-in.

 

Q. I can't open the linked document. What should I do?

A. There are several different document types that can be attached to a course. If the document is an Adobe PDF, then you can download the free Adobe Reader here. If the document is a Word (doc), PowerPoint (ppt), or Excel(xls) document, then you will need the Microsoft Office suite or you may download the Office viewers here. If the document is a Flash video (FLV), then you may download the free Flash player here.

 

Q. What languages are available for the site?

A. English is the primary language of the site. Some documents are available in the document library in Spanish. However, this depends on the resource.

 

Q. I can't open my certificate. What do I need?

A. Your certificate is downloadable as a PDF. You may use the Adobe Reader to view it. You may download the free Adobe Reader here.

 

Q. My email address has changed. How do I update my profile?

A. Log in to the website. Click the NFSMI Main Menu link to return to the main menu. Next, click on the Manage My Profile link in your "Toolbox" to access your profile information. Make your changes and click the Save Profile button to save your changes.

You can change your e-mail address in your profile for contact information. However, your user name will remain the original e-mail address you used to create your profile. Even if that e-mail address is no longer active, you can still use it as your log-in.

You must log-in using your original user name (original e-mail address) to access courses you have registered for or certificates you have earned.

 

Q. What is the Course Viewer?

A. The Course Viewer was created by Digital Dog, Inc. to allow NFSMI to create and distribute their courses online quickly and efficiently.

 

Q. Who is Digital Dog, Inc.?

A. Digital Dog, Inc. is a web development company from Nashville, TN. They developed the Course Viewer and Course Builder for NFSMI.

Browser Specific Settings:

  • Popups must be allowed. We only use popups to display information relevant to the course. We will never use them for advertising.
  • Flash 8 plug-in must be installed. The Flash plug-in is installed on 98% of internet-enabled desktops. This technology is the standard for internet multimedia experiences.
  • Javascript must be enabled. Javascript is used to perform many functions within the Course Viewer.
  • Cookies must be enabled. The Course Viewer uses cookies to keep track of your credentials. These must be enabled for accurate storage of your profile.
